A great deal of trucking insurance consists of 9 units or less, and  is underwritten by computer algorithm.  Data is entered into a program and the premium is automatically generated. 

When an entity grows into a Truck Fleet of 9 or more units, human underwriters become more involved and each risk is personally evaluated.

What do I need to get a truck fleet insurance quote?

Most insurance companies will require :

  • 3 years of Loss Runs
  • IFTAs
  • Financials

Progressive’s new Small Fleet program does not require IFTAs or Financials if the requested radius is Unlimited.

Three years loss history, future estimates of total miles and annual receipts are requested on the application.

How long does it take to get a commercial auto quote for a small trucking fleet?

Most insurance companies ask for 90 days and definitely 75 days with full paperwork prior to the requested effective date of the policy.

Can I get any discounts on the cost of my small truck fleet insurance?

Yes, all insurance companies personally review fleets with professional underwriters and offer safety credits to bid for business they want to write.  Some companies offer credits based on ELD and other electronic tracking.
